Red, Black and Taupe Wedding Theme - Inspired by Burberry

When I saw the smartly coordinated attire of the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the colors made me think of Burberry's famous Novacheck pattern.   Dressing the groomsmen in taupe was such a stylish choice.   A red, black and taupe color scheme is ideal for those wanting a Burberry-inspired wedding that's not too literal (i.e. sans Novacheck).   Resources follow.

Sage and Yellow Wedding Theme

I have to be honest about the inspiration for this sage and yellow wedding theme.   While watching Dancing With The Stars last night, I was drawn to the color scheme in the Ricki Lake interview room.   The deep sage walls and saffron yellow window treatments complemented each other in the most beautiful way!    Don't you agree?    Resources follow.

Wedding Welcome Bags - What To Include

For out-of-town guests, wedding welcome bags are a thoughtful and appreciated gesture.   Weary travelers are always happy to receive an assortment of delectable and practical items.

What should be included in your goodie bags?   It's always safe to start with the basics:   a map of the area, transportation info, area attractions, pain reliever, water bottles, tissues, notepad & pen, gum, and mints.   For late nights in the hotel room, guests will be grateful for munchies and entertaining items:   microwave popcorn, nuts, crackers, jam, cheese, sausage, cookies, fresh fruit, beverages, crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Personalize your bags by:    (1) including treats associated with the area, (2) printing your names and wedding date on items, or (3) enclosing a note.   Package all of your goodies in containers that are suitable to your wedding theme if possible (pails for beach wedding, cowboy hats for western wedding) or opt for eco-friendly totes that guests can use again and again when they return home.

Planning a Wedding Menu - Dining Scenarios

When planning your wedding reception menu, there are several factors to consider.   Budget, number of guests, venue, and personal taste will dictate the direction your menu takes.

Sit-Down (Plated) Dinner
Works best for:    Receptions at a club, ballroom or catering facility.

Note:   It's assumed that plated dinners are pricier than buffets but this isn't always the case.   Ask for the actual price difference between seated dinners and buffets.

Buffet
Works best for:   Those who want multiple entrees and have a guest list of 100 or less (long lines can form).

NOTE:   Ask how long the food will sit out (for taste and health reasons) and if waitstaff will direct traffic to the buffet.

Cocktail Party
Works best for:   Couples on a tight budget and those with large guest lists.    Hors d'oeuvres cost much less than a sit-down meal.

NOTE:   It's best to start a cocktail party reception around 8:00 pm or so.   A reception starting at 5:00 or 6:00 pm suggests that dinner will be served.    Also, because a cocktail party reception involves lighter fare, it's best to keep it under three hours to avoid ravished guests as the party progresses.

Casual Outdoor Dinner
Works best for:   Couples who prefer a laid-back, informal dinner and venue.   Can be held in a backyard, barn or park setting.

NOTE:   If the reception takes place in the backyard of a private home, are you okay with catering staff in your kitchen?   Will the caterer bring a cook tent?  How will they keep food from getting cold?   How will you deal with insects?

Love Bird Spring Wedding Theme in Powder Blue and Grey

What's more spring-like than flowers, butterflies and chirping love birds on branches?   The gorgeous Modern Branches cake from Bobbette & Belle provided the inspiration for this board in powder blue and grey.   I love when pastels combine with grey to create a soft yet sophisticated palette.

Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses, Bouquets & Shoes?

I'm all for mixing things up when it comes to bridesmaid attire, but I have to admit that this is too much even for me.   When it comes to mismatched bridesmaid dresses, the overall look should still be somewhat cohesive.   Granted the basic dress is the same, but the different brightly-colored bows, bouquets and shoes are rather distracting.    Not only are the bouquets different colors but made of different flowers as well.

These two looks, hit the mark in my opinion:
