Wedding Cupcakes - Oh, So Cute

A couple of the posts over the past week have included wedding cupcakes and wedding cakes, so I thought it would be appropriate to end the week with more wedding sweetness!   As mentioned in the beach-themed wedding post, wedding cupcakes are an attractive and budget-friendly alternative to the traditional wedding cake.  Resources below.

Budget Wedding with a Beach Theme

If you're stressing out over how you're going to plan a fabulous wedding on a tight budget, don't despair.   The following images show how a couple planned a breezy, fun-filled, beach wedding celebration in sunny Coronado, CA.    And all on a budget, no less!

Images courtesy of Snippet and Ink

The couple saved money by having the ceremony at the beach of Coronado Island and the reception at a nearby Mexican restaurant.   Children and adults alike received muslin goody bags filled with candy as favors.   Flower girls carried nautilus shell "flower baskets" made by a friend of the bride.   Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the wedding couple opted for less expensive cupcakes.   The groom and groomsmen sported matching Chuck Taylors by Converse.

Save on Wedding Photography and Videography

If your wedding budget is somewhat tight and you're looking for ways to save on wedding photography and videography, here are a few tips to cut (or in some cases, postpone) costs.    You'll find that most photographers and videographers are willing to work with most any wedding budget.

  • Videography:   Have the filming done on your wedding day and then have the editing done later.    The editing is actually where most of the cost comes in as it's very labor intensive.

  • Videography:   Use one videographer/filmer as each person adds additional cost.

  • Photography:   Call the art department of your local community college or university.   Ask if they have students that would be interested in shooting a wedding, give them the date and then state your price.

What Wedding Accessory Will Make Your Day Complete?

What is your must-have wedding accessory?   What's the one thing you must have to make your Wedding Day complete?   We asked this question of brides-to-be and here are some of the responses received:

  • My must have accesory is anything monogrammed.   I am so excited to begin my life as Mrs Brum_______ that I want the B on everything!  Rikki O.

  • What must I have? Michael S____ as the groom!  Laura P.

  • My "must have" wedding accessory is BUBBLES!   I've always loved bubbles and plan on incorporating it into my wedding.  Kenya F.

  • I can't get married without a beautiful guestbook.   It's a wonderful keepsake of everyone who helped celebrate my special day.  Liana D.

  • I must have my Mommie's Heart necklace that she wore on her wedding day.   It is so important because I lost my Mother last year to breast cancer so this will be like having her near me.  Sharon M.

  • A beautiful reception with Black & White Damask Print decorations, table runners and favors!   This would make my wedding day absolutely perfect!  Maggin L.

  • The Silver Initial Cake Topper  Joni L.

  • Favors,   Dorothy S.

  • A beautifully elegant veil.  Camille H.

  • Anything! I need it all!  Jennifer H.

  • On my wedding day, one thing I must have to make my wedding day complete is the
large square vase for a centerpiece.  Ashley B.

  • The wedding accessory I'm most excited about: A garter that makes all the bachelors blush!  Lindsey Y.

  • My must have is the dress I have been saving since our first engagement 3 years ago.    He walked a mile on his lunch break to buy it for me and has never seen it.    I have been saving it, even though we broke up 6 months later, and now, years later, I still have the dress in perfect condition!  Emily H.

  • A veil.   My fiance told me he has always dreamed of lifting the veil from his bride at the alter...but i can't find just the right one..most are just selling one tier these days.  Hope U.

  • I must have a unique wedding topper for my cake, one which I can pass down to my children and their children someday.  Janine P.

  • A photo that guests could sign like a guest book! To be able to look back and see how much everyone cares would be the best.   Lisa R.

  • The one thing that we really want for our wedding is a unique cake topper that I have not been able to find. We want a money sign cake topper because our last name will be Cash :)  Karen W.

More Bird Wedding Theme Ideas

If you're the outdoorsy type or have your heart set on a bird wedding theme, here are more ideas to help you along the way:

Row 1:  Bird Bath Place Card Holders;  Feather Bouquet;  DIY Rustic Wedding Centerpieces (see instructions below)

Row 2:  Bell Jar Nest Centerpieces;  Love Bird Table Number Card (Winter Version);  Love Bird Chocolate Bar Favors

DIY Rustic Wedding Centerpieces

What you will need:

· slice of wood ( 11′ diam x 2.5′ h)
· glass cylinder vases ( 11′h, 9′h, 6′h x 3.5′ diam) you can find these at
Jo-Ann Fabrics, Michael’s Crafts, and Hobby Lobby
· pillar candles ( 3 varying heights to fit in each vase)
· ribbon & yarn
· fabric, wood, or dried flowers
· double sided tape
· scissors

Instructions:

1. Cut 3 pieces of ribbon/yarn (one arms length per piece). Wrap each vase with ribbon/yarn. Attach ends of ribbon/yarn with double sided tape to surface of vase. I chose to wrap with a knobby yarn, satin ribbon, and grosgrain ribbon to create a variety of textures. I also wrapped the ribbon/yarn at different heights on each vase to create more interest.

2. Attach fabric/wood/dried flower to a piece of ribbon and tie around tallest vase.

3. Insert pillar candles into vases. arrange cluster of vases on wood slice, keeping the sides with the tape facing the center.

4. Arrange fabric/wood/dried flowers on wood slice around the vase cluster. Light the candles and enjoy your rustically elegant centerpiece!

FYI: The wooden flowers shown are no longer available for purchase. I would suggest creating fabric flowers or heading to a local craft store and picking up some dried botanicals. If you are interested in creating these centerpieces in large numbers, I would suggest ordering the vases in bulk.

More Wedding Color Palette Tools

Choosing a wedding color palette is often challenging – especially if you want a palette that hasn’t been overused.   When I came across this color palette selection tool, I just had to share.    Using art or photos as inspiration for choosing a color palette is a tried and true interior designer technique.    At DeGraeve.com, you’ll find a cool tool that lets you insert the URL of any jpg picture to generate a possible color palette.   The generator produces both a warm palette and a vibrant version.

The generator is SO easy to use – just enter the URL address of an image that ends in .jpg into the URL window then click the “Color-Palette-ify” button.

Cheap Wedding Cakes? You Can Always Rent a Cake!

Brides-to-be in search of cheap wedding cakes, may find the following concept appealing.    I'll admit.    When I first saw the title "Rent the Wedding Cake of Your Dreams" after performing a Google search, I was aghast.    I couldn't imagine how one could rent a consumable product.

What I discovered upon further reading is that more and more couples (in an effort to reduce wedding expenses) are opting to rent an elegant display cake for their cake tables, and have their caterers serve a less expensive sheet cake.   The display cakes even contain a portion of actual cake to accommodate the traditional "first cut".    The rental cake is delivered and set up at the reception hall while the cake to be served to guests is delivered to the kitchen.   The caterer simply whisks the display cake away, cuts the sheet cake in the kitchen and then serves.

This concept works well for those having outdoor wedding receptions as they no longer have to worry about heat, humidity or insects ruining their beautiful cakes.
